Written by the Hand of God

In 1892, Sir Francis Galton published his landmark study on fingerprints, confirming what no one had dared to believe: no two human beings in history have ever shared the same fingerprint pattern. Not among the billions who have lived. Not even identical twins.

That last detail stops you in your tracks. Identical twins share one hundred percent of their DNA. They develop from the same fertilized egg. And yet, as their fingers form in the womb — pressed against amniotic fluid, shaped by tiny, unrepeatable variations in pressure and position — each twin receives a pattern that belongs to them alone. The same genetic code, but a different signature.

Science tells us this happens because of random stress patterns during fetal development. But the psalmist had another word for it. "You knit me together in my mother's womb," David wrote. "I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13-14).

Here is what this means for every person sitting in this sanctuary today: before you drew your first breath, before anyone named you or labeled you or told you who you should be, the Living God had already pressed an identity into your skin that no one else in the history of the world would ever carry.

You are not a copy. You are not an accident of biology. You are not the sum of what others have said about you.

You are a one-of-one, written by the hand of the Almighty — and no force on earth can duplicate what He has made.
