Written in the Image

Every iPhone ships with a unique identifier burned into its hardware at the factory — Apple calls it the UDID, the Unique Device Identifier. You cannot change it. You cannot delete it. No software update can overwrite it. No matter how many apps you install, no matter how cracked the screen gets, no matter how many times you wipe the phone and start fresh, that identifier remains. It was written into the device at the moment of its creation.

Apple designed it that way on purpose. They wanted every device to be recognizable, trackable, and ultimately returnable to its origin — no matter what happened to it along the way.

You and I carry something similar. Genesis 1:27 tells us we were made in the image of God — the Imago Dei. That identity was written into us at the factory, so to speak. It is not an app you download. It is not a setting you can toggle off. It is burned into the hardware of your soul.

And here is what matters most: nothing in your life can overwrite it. Not your failures. Not your shame. Not the labels the world has stuck on you. Not even the labels you have stuck on yourself.

You can forget your identity. You can ignore it. You can pile a thousand other identities on top of it. But underneath it all, the Maker's mark remains.

You are not what you have done. You are whose you are — and that identifier was set before you drew your first breath.
