Every iPhone ships with a unique identifier burned into its hardware at the factory — a string of letters and numbers called a UDID. You cannot change it. You cannot delete it. No software update, no factory reset, no amount of damage to the screen or case can alter it. Apple embedded that identity before the device ever left the assembly line, and it remains constant through every app installed, every photo taken, every crack in the glass.

We live in a world that treats identity like software — something you download, customize, and swap out when the next version drops. Social media invites us to curate ourselves into existence. Career titles define us until the layoff. Relationships shape us until they shift. And when enough of those externals change, we find ourselves asking the question that keeps pastors up at night: Who am I, really?

The Psalmist answered it centuries before Silicon Valley existed. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you," God told Jeremiah. Your identity was not crowd-sourced. It was not compiled from your achievements or assembled from the opinions of others. The Creator of heaven and earth wrote it into your being before you drew your first breath.

Like that identifier burned into the hardware, your truest self — beloved child of the Almighty, known and chosen — cannot be overwritten by circumstance, failure, or even your own doubt. No life event can factory-reset who God says you are.
