Written Into You

In 1996, researcher Diana Bianchi at Tufts University made a discovery that stunned the scientific world. During pregnancy, cells from the developing baby cross the placenta and embed themselves in the mother's body — in her heart, her brain, her liver, her bloodstream. Scientists call this microchimerism. The astonishing part? These cells don't disappear after birth. They persist for decades. Bianchi's team found fetal cells in mothers twenty-seven years after pregnancy. A mother literally carries her child within her long after the umbilical cord is cut.

She is permanently marked by the life she bore.

Scripture tells us something strikingly similar about our identity in Christ. When we are born again, it is not a surface-level change — a new coat of paint on the same old walls. The Apostle Paul writes that we become a "new creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17). God doesn't merely visit us. He takes up residence. His Spirit embeds itself in the deepest chambers of who we are.

The world will try to tell you who you are by what you've done, what you've earned, or what others think of you. But your truest identity was written into you by the One who made you — and like those persistent cells in a mother's body, nothing can remove what God has placed within you.
