Recalibrating Your Inner GPS
Every smartphone today comes equipped with GPS navigation — apps like Google Maps or Waze that can guide you turn by turn from your driveway to a destination you have never visited. The technology is remarkable. Satellites orbiting twenty thousand kilometers above the earth pinpoint your location within a few feet. But here is what every driver knows: the GPS only works if you follow the directions.
Miss a turn, and the screen recalculates. Ignore it again, and it recalculates once more. The system never stops offering guidance — but if you keep overriding it, you end up lost in some industrial park at midnight, insisting you know a shortcut.
Obedience to God works much the same way. The Holy Spirit whispers, "Turn here." Scripture says, "This is the way; walk in it" (Isaiah 30:21). And like that calm GPS voice, God does not stop guiding us when we veer off course. He recalculates. He offers grace upon grace, a new route back to where He wants us.
But recalculation has a cost. Every ignored prompt adds distance. Every detour burns time and fuel we did not need to spend.
The beauty of obedience is that it is the shortest route to peace. Not because God is rigid, but because He sees the whole map — the traffic, the dead ends, the roads we cannot see from where we are standing. When He says turn, the wisest thing we will ever do is turn.
