The Architect Who Built for God's Timeline

In 1883, a young Spanish architect named Antoni Gaudí took over the design of a church in Barcelona — the Sagrada Família. What began as a modest commission became his life's consuming obedience. Gaudí poured forty-three years into the project, eventually moving into the workshop itself, sleeping among his models and drawings.

He knew he would never see it finished. The spires he sketched would not rise in his lifetime. The facades he designed in exquisite detail would be completed by hands he would never shake. When people questioned why he worked so painstakingly on something he could not complete, Gaudí reportedly replied, "My client is not in a hurry."

His client was God.

Gaudí died in 1926, struck by a streetcar, and was buried in the crypt of his unfinished masterpiece. A century later, construction continues. Every stone laid since his death is an act of trust in the original vision — workers obediently following blueprints drawn by a man long gone, serving a God who measures time differently than we do.

Obedience rarely gives us the satisfaction of seeing the finished product. God asks us to lay stones for cathedrals we may never enter, to plant trees whose shade we may never enjoy. But faithful obedience does not require a finished timeline — it requires trust that the Architect who called us knows exactly what He is building.
