The GPS That Only Works When You Follow It

Every smartphone comes with a GPS app that can guide you anywhere — across cities, through unfamiliar countryside, even around construction detours you never saw coming. But here is the thing about GPS navigation that every driver has experienced: it only works when you actually follow the directions.

When you miss a turn on Google Maps, the app does not punish you. It does not shut down. It does not lecture you about your poor decision-making. Instead, you hear that calm voice say, "Recalculating." The system immediately begins plotting a new route from exactly where you are. But notice — even the new route still requires your obedience. You still have to turn when it says turn. You still have to stay on the road it highlights. The destination has not changed, and neither has the fundamental requirement: you must follow to arrive.

God's guidance works much the same way. His Word is not a suggestion engine. When Scripture says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight," it is describing a navigation system that requires active obedience, not passive agreement.

We love the idea of God directing our steps. We are less enthusiastic about the part where we actually have to walk where He points. But a GPS you ignore is just a glowing screen. And a faith without obedience is just a nice idea. The Almighty is always ready to recalculate — but He is still asking you to follow.
