The Insulin Protocol

In 1921, Frederick Banting and Charles Best isolated insulin at the University of Toronto, transforming a death sentence into a manageable condition. Before their discovery, a diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes meant wasting away within months. Insulin changed everything — but only for those who followed the protocol.

Here is what every endocrinologist knows: insulin sitting in a vial saves no one. The patient must monitor blood glucose levels multiple times a day, inject the correct dosage at the correct time, adjust for meals and activity, and never skip a dose because they feel fine. The moment a diabetic decides the routine is unnecessary — that they know their body well enough to improvise — the consequences begin silently. Blood sugar climbs. Organs sustain damage they cannot feel. The medicine was always available. It was disobedience that made it powerless.

Scripture works the same way. God has given us everything we need for life and godliness. His Word is not lacking in power. His promises are not deficient. But like insulin in an unopened vial, truth that is heard and never obeyed cannot heal what is broken inside us.

James understood this when he wrote, "Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves."

The Great Physician has already written the prescription. The question was never whether the medicine works. The question is whether we will follow the protocol He has given us — faithfully, daily, even when we feel fine on our own.
