The Recalculating Voice
Every driver knows that moment. The GPS says turn left, but you can see the highway straight ahead, and it looks faster. So you ignore the prompt. You stay the course. And then, three seconds later, that patient voice returns: "Recalculating."
Google Maps processes over a billion kilometers of driving data every day. Its routing algorithm accounts for traffic patterns, road closures, construction zones, and accidents you cannot yet see. When it tells you to take what looks like an absurd detour down a side street, it is working with information you simply do not have. The algorithm sees the wreck on I-94 that is still twenty minutes ahead of you. It knows about the lane closure you will not discover until you are stuck in it.
Obedience to God works on a similar principle. The Lord sees what we cannot see. When He says wait, and every instinct screams go. When He says forgive, and every wound says they do not deserve it. When He says give, and the bank account says hold on — He is routing us around disasters we have not yet encountered.
The difference, of course, is that God is not an algorithm. He is Yahweh, the One who knows the end from the beginning. His commands are not arbitrary restrictions. They are the loving guidance of a Father who sees the full map of our lives.
The next time obedience feels like a detour, remember: the One giving directions can see what you cannot.
