The Voice That Keeps Recalculating

If you have ever used Google Maps or Waze on a road trip, you know the experience. The calm voice says, "Turn right in three hundred feet." But you think you know a shortcut. You blow past the turn. And almost immediately, you hear it: "Recalculating."

Here is what is remarkable about GPS navigation. The system does not scold you. It does not shut down. It immediately begins plotting a new route from exactly where you are. Miss another turn, and it recalculates again. And again. The destination never changes — only the route adjusts to account for your detours.

But anyone who has ignored GPS directions knows the cost. That shortcut through downtown added twenty minutes. The scenic route put you in standstill traffic. You always arrive later than you would have if you had simply followed the original guidance.

God's relationship with our obedience works much the same way. The Almighty never stops guiding us. His grace recalculates every time we veer off course. As Proverbs 3:6 promises, "In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." His patience is inexhaustible.

But there is a difference between arriving at God's purposes the long way and walking the path He set before you from the start. Obedience is not about earning His love — that recalculating voice proves you already have it. Obedience is about trusting that the One who sees the whole map knows the best route home.
