When the Map Knows What You Don't

In 2013, Google acquired Waze — the community-driven navigation app — for over a billion dollars. What made it revolutionary wasn't just mapping roads. It was the app's ability to see what drivers couldn't: a jackknifed truck three miles ahead, construction that started twenty minutes ago, black ice reported by another driver just seconds before.

Every day, millions of drivers face a small moment of decision. Waze says to exit the highway and wind through an unfamiliar neighborhood. The route looks wrong. It feels longer. Everything inside you says, "Stay on the main road — I know this way."

But the app has data you don't have. It sees around corners you can't see around.

Obedience to God works the same way. He says forgive, and it feels like weakness. He says wait, and it feels like wasted time. He says give, and it feels like loss. The route He maps for your life will sometimes look like a detour through unfamiliar territory.

But God sees the wreck ahead that you can't see. He knows about the road that's washed out two miles from here.

The drivers who arrive fastest aren't the ones who know the road best — they're the ones who trust the guidance they've been given. Deuteronomy 28:1 promises blessing to those who "fully obey the Lord your God." Not because obedience is always easy to understand, but because the One giving directions sees the whole map.
